Weekly Tips for succesful job applications!
Tip 1 for a successful job application.
As a recruiter in the horticulture and fruit & vegetables industry, I’ve seen first-hand how vibrant and full of opportunity this sector is. Whether I’m meeting with employers or speaking with candidates, one thing is clear: this industry is often overlooked, especially by younger job seekers, and it’s time to change that narrative.
The Sector:
Many view the horticulture and Fruit & Vegetables sector as “unsexy,” but that couldn’t be further from the truth. These are dynamic, fast-moving sectors where you can build an exciting career, both nationally and internationally. From production and procurement to sales and quality control, the roles are varied and impactful. You’ll be working with producers across the globe and contributing to an industry that plays a crucial role in the global economy. With exports at an all-time high, companies are desperate for skilled (and young) talent. The opportunities here are endless!
But why aren’t more young professionals considering careers in these industries? Perhaps it’s due to a lack of visibility. Schools, social media, and even the companies themselves could do more to showcase just how dynamic and forward-thinking this sector really is. That’s where this series comes in: I’ll be sharing weekly tips to help you understand the unique opportunities in horticulture and F&V, and how to land your next role in these booming sectors.
Tip 1:
To kick things off, my first tip is crucial for anyone looking to stand out in 2025: know the trends that are shaping the future of the industry. Staying informed about the latest technological innovations, sustainability efforts, and digitalisation trends will set you apart as a candidate. Why does this matter? Employers are increasingly looking for people who can help navigate these changes. The industry is evolving quickly with advancements in AgTech, automation, and precision farming. Sustainability is also at the forefront, as companies adapt to new environmental standards and practices. And let’s not forget digitalisation, data-driven decisions and innovative supply chains are revolutionising the way things are done.
By demonstrating that you’re aware of these trends and that you understand their impact, you show potential employers that you’re not just looking for a job, you’re ready to contribute to the future of the sector. Highlight this knowledge on your CV and LinkedIn profile to catch the attention of recruiters and employers alike.
